国外研究生地理学什么？
本人，英，法，澳，新，欧陆（瑞士、德国）等地留学或工作经历，目前从事海外留学咨询工作 很多人不知道地理学专业是干什么的，也不知道该专业有哪些研究方向，更不清楚这些研究方向的含义是什么，下面我以英国为例来介绍下地理学专业及方向： 以UCL为例，它的Geography系设置在Institute of the Environment and Earth Sciences (IEES)下面。该系一共有6个小组和1个专业，分别是： Climate Change & Atmospheric Science 气候变化与大气科学 Environmental Data Science 环境监测 Data Science 数据科学 Earth Observation 地球观测 Natural Hazards 自然灾害 Geoinformation Systems 地信系统 Professional Training 专业学习 每个小组的研究方向和主要研究者都不同，但基本上都可以归类到以下4大研究方向：
1.自然/物理地理：This section covers geographical areas concerned with physical processes in the environment， such as climate change and natural hazards.
2.人文地理：This section includes work on human population distribution， economic activity， and cultural aspects of countries and regions. It also examines human responses to environmental changes.
3.数据科学与传感网络：This area looks at data science methodologies， including big data， statistical analysis 和data mining tools and applications for spatial data. Sensors， communication systems and network theory are studied here.
4.信息科学与技术：An information technology background is important for this group， which focuses on computational skills necessary for research in geography， such as programming， mathematical modelling， statistics 和problemsolving strategies. Advanced computing techniques used include machine learning， artificial intelligence， data visualisation and deep learning. 除了这4个大研究方向之外，你还会学到包括GIS（地理信息系统）基础、遥感、地图学、统计分析、编程等在内的多门必修课程。 每一个专业都有相应的入学要求，一般要求相关专业背景，GPA达到80%+，雅思总分7+，有些学校会要求gre/gmat成绩，具体视专业而定。
