回答样本： My favorite artist is Michelangelo. He was an Italian sculptor， painter and architect of the High Renaissance. He grew up in Italy of the late 1400s as the son of a stone mason. Not much is known about his life or how he developed his skills， but we know that by the age of twenty-four he had become the most famous artist of his generation.
Michelangelo’s sculptures were considered innovative． His works are characterized by their proportions and his ability to capture the human form in motion. One such example is The David which he finished when he was thirty-five years old. David was the symbol of Florence and this bronze sculpture was placed on top of a column in front of the city hall． It was originally intended to be visible from all angles．
In addition to being a sculptor， Michelangelo was also a painter. Many of his paintings can still be seen in churches and museums around the world． His most renowned painting is the Sistine Chapel in Rome which took him over ten years to complete. The ceiling is covered in intricate details of God's creation with man depicted in the middle．
My favorite work by Michelangelo is one of his sculptures of Moses． It can be found in St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. Like many of his other pieces， it is thought that this statue would have been created to be viewed from all sides. In fact， there are holes drilled into the back of the head so that light could shine through the eyes making them seem even more alive.
The reason why I love learning about Michelangelo has to do with my own personal history. When I was eighteen years old， my parents gave me a trip around Europe to celebrate my graduation from high school． While I was there， I visited the areas where some of his most famous works could be seen， including the Pieta in St.Peter's Basilica and David in Galleria dell'Accademia． Standing in front of these monumental creations， I felt like I understood what made this man tick and I could imagine what his life must have been like.
